Everything's changed for designers. Here's what you need to know.

If you're trying to break into design right now, or level up fast — the game has genuinely changed. The good news: it's changed in your favour, if you know how to use it.

Here’s what’s coming in the next few weeks:

Land the job / go freelance

  • How young designers sidestep the entry-level job crisis
  • Ways to earn remotely with client-free, commute-free work
  • AI-assisted portfolios: build a folio faster than ever

Supercharged AI workflows

  • New UX workflows with AI — become AI-native
  • Prototype and build real apps in Claude — no developer needed
  • Build a full design system in under an hour
  • How Midjourney fits (and doesn't) into professional design work

What AI can't replace

  • The part of product design AI still can't do
  • What "AI-native designer" actually means — and how to become one
  • When to use AI in design and when to put it down

To give you a taste of what I mean — here's something I made this week.

After a design interview, I built a bespoke page for that specific role in a couple of hours: custom layout, my relevant projects, availability, a video placeholder. The kind of thing that used to take a full day. That's what this newsletter is about — not the tools, but what becomes possible when you know how to use them.

Here's the video that I embedded into that page showing a properly tokenised dual-brand design system and how fast one colour (token) can be updated and propagated throughout this design system that can then be used by Claude Code to build webpages and apps insanely fast!

If that sounds useful, hang in — I’ll be sending one focused thing each week, sometimes with video tutorials.

If it’s not what you signed up for, no hard feelings at all — there’s an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email.

One thing before I dive in — I’d love to know what you actually need.

That list of 10 above covers a lot of ground. Rather than guess what’s most useful to you right now, I’ll just ask:

What’s the one thing you most need to figure out — or what’s your biggest question about design, folios, jobs and skills right now?

Hit reply and tell me. I read every response, and your answer will shape what I write about and create tutorials for.

To start, two free reads - both on things I’ve been working through myself
(Free — no sign-up needed):

If you’d like to work through any of this together — your workflow, your positioning, your portfolio — I do completely personalised 1:1 sessions.
